LEISTON produced a five-star display to reach this season’s Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup Semi-Finals.

The swept aside an Ipswich Town XI 5-0 at the Watson & Hillhouse Victory Road Stadium on Tuesday evening to progress to the final four of the competition.

Darragh McCann crashed a shot against the crossbar for the visitors after just five minutes during an even opening half-an-hour, before Ben Fowkes put Leiston ahead, shooting past the exposed Alan Fleischer.

Six minutes later, in the 41st minute, former Town youngster Albie Armin made it two, turning home a left-wing cross.

Leiston keeper Ellis Craven made a fine diving save from Oli Davis just after the break, before Leiston over-ran their opponents.

Kyran Clements slid home a low cross at the far post after 70 minutes, and two minutes later George Quantrell lifted the ball over Fleischer to make it 4-0.

The best goal of the night arrived in the 79th minute, substitute Ismael Fatadjo using the wind to curl home a 30-yard free-kick into the top corner.

Leiston manager Chris Wigger said afterwards: “I think in recent weeks we have been talking about being pleased with performances but not results, and it was nice to get both of them tonight.

“The message before the game was to go and get shots off and make sure we put lots of crosses into the box and ask some questions of the back four and the goalkeeper, and that is something we did from the offset.

“I think it has really paid dividends for us tonight as we needed to make it a bit of a Non-League game in order to test ourselves against a team that trains full-time and you would probably expect to be a little bit fitter than us and maybe technically a bit better.

“Also, you would expect their organisation to be good because they are working on their shape every day of the week, so from point of view that was a really pleasing performance.”
