Junior Cup sides are going head-to-head

THIRTY teams will go head-to-head in the Suffolk Junior Cup on Saturday.

THIRTY teams will go head-to-head in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup on Saturday.

There are 15 second-round ties as Pakefield Dynamos have already withdrawn, handing Gipping Gnats a place in the third-round draw.

Last season’s two finalists – Thurston and Woolverstone United are both in action as are the two sides that contested last season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Final.

Holders Thurston (9th) and hosts Cockfield United (10th) are separated by just one point and one place in Division One of the Macron SIL this season, so a close match is in prospect.

Eleventh-placed Woolverstone United, last season’s losing finalists in this competition, welcome Clare Town, who currently top Division 2A of the Cambridgeshire County League having won seven and drawn two of their nine matches so far this season.

Redgrave Rangers, who defeated Cavendish 2-0 in last season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Final, lead SIL Division Two with 22 out of 24 points this season.

They have a home tie versus AFC Mildenhall, who sit fourth in 2B of the Cambridgeshire County League.

Essex & Suffolk Border League Division One side Cavendish visit Ipswich side Achilles, who are also second-from-bottom of their league in Division One of the SIL.

Two Cambridgeshire County League sides meet as Hundon, who are yet to pick up a point in Senior A, entertain Exning United, fourth in Division 1B.

Saxmundham Sports currently lead SIL Division One and have home advantage against seventh-placed Ipswich Wanderers Development, who they defeated 2-1 away last month.

Two sides enjoying good seasons meet as Lowestoft & District League Division One side AFC Oulton travel to the outskirts of Ipswich to face AFC Kesgrave, who are second in Division One of the SIL.

AFC Oulton (red shirts) are pictured in action versus Bohemians (red & blue striped shirts) at Dip Farm in Lowestoft earlier this season.
