Losing semi-finalists return to cup action
BOTH of last season’s losing semi-finalists are in McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup action on Saturday.
Ipswich Exiles, who went down 2-1 to eventual runners-up Cavendish, travel to Bramford United, the 2020-21 winners of this competition.
Exiles have a perfect record with eight wins out of eight in SIL Division Four side, while Bramford are ninth in Division Five.
Bramford United (red shirts) are pictured above in action against Hadleigh United Brettsiders (yellow shirts) last month.
In that 2020-21 final Bramford United defeated Laxfield, who entertain Coddenham, 4-2 losers to Redgrave Rangers in the final four of last season's competition.
Coddenham, of course, won the final the previous season, getting the better of Gipping Gnats 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
Samuels, who netted six times in a 6-4 win at Hope Church in the first round, are away at West Row Gunners, who had a 5-0 win at Exning United Reserves.
Hadleigh United Brettsiders, 8-1 winners at Capel Plough Reserves in round one, are at home to Beccles Town ‘A’, who edged through 5-4 at Kessingland Reserves.
East Bergholt United ‘A’, who had a bye last time out, make the long journey to Lowestoft to face Oulton United, who put 26 goals past Pakefield Dynamos Development team in the first round.
The second round of the MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup gets under way on Thursday evening with the tie between AFC Sudbury and Leiston St Margarets.
It will be a big night for the visitors, who play in the Suffolk Girls’ & Women’s Championship, competing under the floodlights on the 3G pitch at the MEL Group Stadium against the holders.
The other seven matches are scheduled for Sunday, with a further four Championship sides in action.
Saxmundham Sports visit AFC Kesgrave and Halesworth Town travel to Sudbury Sports, Coplestonians host Waveney and Framlingham Town entertain Beccles Toiwn.
Haverhill Town of the Cambridgeshire Women’s & Girls’ League face a tough trip to Needham Market, even though they are second-from-bottom of the Eastern Region Women’s Football League.
Woodbridge Town, who currently top the table, face fellow Suffolk Girls’ & Women’s League Premiership side Stowupland, who were last season’s losing finalists.
Brantham Athletic, currently second in the Premiership, welcome Bungay Town, who sit top of the Norfolk Women & Girls’ League Division One.
