Goals galore scored in Primary Cup ties
THERE were goals galore in the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Second Round on Saturday.
The 15 second round ties yielded 103 goals at an average of 6.86 per game, with at least four goals scored in every match.
The Thurlow Reserves versus Brooks Hall Rovers tie ended 10-4 to the home team, while there were ten goals at Saxmundham Sports Reserves, who lost 7-3 to Witnesham Wasps.
Kirton Athletic Development also netted seven as they won 7-2 versus Bungay Town U23s, while three teams each scored six times away from home – Occold (6-0 at Achilles Reserves), Ipswich Exiles (6-0 at Bramford United) and Haverhill Town (6-1 at Woolverstone United Reserves).

Coddenham Athletic, the 2022-23 winners and last season’s losing finalists, lost 4-3 at Laxfield. Just one tie was settled by a penalty shoot-out – Hundon Reserves winning 6-5 following a 1-1 draw with Sporting 87 ‘A’.
The draw for the third round will be announced later this week.
Stowupland Flacons, last season’s losing finalists, were knocked out at the second-round stage of this season’s MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup as they went down 3-1 at Woodbridge Town.
There were good away wins for Beccles Town (6-0 at Framlingham Town) and Waveney (6-1 at Coplestonians).
Norfolk Women & Girls’ League Division One table-toppers Bungay Town went through 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Brantham Athletic, who were second in the Suffolk Girls & Women’s League Premiership.
The quarter-final draw will be announced later this week.
There are eight second-round ties spread across three nights in this season’s Veo Suffolk U18 Midweek Cup this week.
AFC Sudbury, whose domination of the competition came to an end last season after seven straight successes, host Felixstowe & Walton United on Tuesday, the same night as Bungay Town host Needham Market.
The following night it’s the Lowestoft derby as Kirkley & Pakefield take on neighbours Lowestoft Town.
Kirkley & Pakefield’s other representatives, AFC Royals, are involved in one of the remaining five ties on Thursday as they host Ipswich Wanderers.
There’s another derby as Hadleigh United make the trip to Cornard United, while holders Haverhill Rovers entertain Stowmarket Town.
Bury Town, the team Haverhill beat 3-2 in last season’s final at Colchester United FC, are at Lakenheath in a West Suffolk derby and Walsham-le-Willows travel to Brantham Athletic.
