Results will need to reflect good work

LOWESTOFT Town travel to Leiston in the Suffolk Premier Cup Second Round on Tuesday.

LOWESTOFT Town need to start achieving results on the pitch that show the work being put in off the pitch, according to new manager Andy Reynolds.

The Trawlerboys former goalkeeper and assistant manager has returned to the club to replace Jamie Godbold, who stood down a month ago to take up a new post with Ipswich Town.

Reynolds has endured a tough start to his reign, losing 5-0 at home to Halesowen Town in his first match in charge and following that with a 4-0 loss at Stourbridge four days later.

Lowestoft, who have not had a competitive match since November 9th, travel to Leiston on Tuesday night in the second round of this season’s Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup, kick-off 7.45pm. The winners will host an Ipswich Town XI in the quarter-finals.

Lowestoft currently occupy 18th place in Pitching In Southern League Premier Central – one point and one place above the relegation zone.

Leiston, meanwhile. sit tenth in the table following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Kettering Town which brought an end their seven-match unbeaten league run.

Reynolds said of his start in the Lowestoft hotseat: “We knew we had a difficult month of fixtures, so it was not anything we didn’t expect in terms of the quality of the opposition, although we were disappointed with the outcome of those games and the way we played.

“In both games we gave good quality opponents a leg up with the individual mistakes we made, but these are things that are easily rectified.

“In the amount of time I have now been in the job I have got to know the group and they have got to know me. Looking at the dynamics of the group and what we can do moving forwards it has been good.

“Aside from the results the players have enjoyed it, and it has been a good month, but we now need to make sure on the pitch that the results show the work we have been doing off the pitch.”

Saturday’s match at home to Stamford was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and Reynolds said: “It has been stop-start so far and we have had two Saturdays off since I took the job, although we did play a friendly against Kirkley & Pakefield a week ago on Saturday.

“However, you want to be playing and get a run of games going because very quickly relationships on the pitch, form and physical fitness starts to change.

“We now have two away games at Leiston in the cup on Tuesday and then Banbury in the league on Saturday.”

Reynolds knows what it is like to win the Suffolk Premier Cup as a player and wants his players to enjoy that experience.

He said: “It has been a long time since Lowestoft have been in a cup final and the Premier Cup is a competition I enjoyed playing in and I was fortunate to play in four or five finals.

“They are always good nights and a nice reward at the end of the season, so we need to be trying to put ourselves in a position to achieve that.

“As a manager I would like the players to do some of the things that I did as a player and play in cup finals, but there are some good teams in the competition and we need to strive to be one of the top teams in the county and this game gives us the opportunity to do that.”
