HAVERHILL Rovers U23s left it late to progress in the Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.

Rovers scored a last-gasp goal to win 2-1 at Kirkley & Pakefield in Saturday’s third round tie.

Both Hadleigh United U23s and Whitton United U23s also won on Saturday to book their place in the quarter-final draw.

Hadleigh United U23s were 4-1 winners at home to AFC Sudbury U23s, while Whitton United were 3-0 winners at lower league Henley Athletic. The remaining five ties are scheduled to take place this weekend.

Only three of the eight scheduled matches in the Best Badges Veterans’ Cup were played on Sunday. Three teams conceded and two other ties were postponed.

Of those that did go ahead two were decided on penalties. Woodbridge Town went through 4-2 after a 2-2 draw at home to Waveney ETC, while Ipswich Exiles won 3-1 on spot kicks following a 2-2 draw with Lowestoft Casuals.

In the other match to take place, Bury Town had a resounding 14-0 victory over visitors Sour Valley.

There were also three matches played in the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Shield, all resulting in home wins.

Martlesham Old Boys beat Bramford United 7-1, Sporting 87 saw off Walsham-le-Willows 5-2 and Capel Plough progressed 2-1 at the expense of Aldeburgh Town.

The quarter-final draws for both competitions will be announced later this week.
