BUNGAY Town are ‘confident without being cocky’ ahead of their MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup Semi-Final, according to manager Nik Rose.

The Norfolk Women & Girls’ Football League Division One side meet Sudbury Sports in the last four at Greens Meadow, home of Stowmarket Town FC, on Sunday afternoon, kick-off 2pm.

Bungay, who top the table by five points, reached their league cup final last weekend, beating Bure Valley Ladies 3-1.

Rose said that the players will be even more focused to reach a second cup final following last Sunday’s success.

“Everyone is really looking forward to it, especially since we just won our league cup semi-final this weekend, although we know we can’t let that affect our mindset going into this game.

“We will be more focused and have been working even harder in training this week, but everyone is excited for what should be a good game,” he said.

Rose admitted that they didn’t know too much about their opponents ahead of being paired with Sudbury Sports, who play in Division One of the Essex County Women’s Football League.

“Obviously since finding out who are opponents were going to be, we’ve had to do our homework, so we’re aware that they have a large squad to choose from, but have a consistent core of a team, with good team spirit who play some good football.

“But sometimes it’s nice not knowing much about the opposition as it lets players find out for themselves on the pitch what they’re up against,” he said.

Bungay, who will be missing several players who are cup-tied, have won through three rounds so far in this season’s competition, which Rose said has given them belief they can reach the final.

He said: “Absolutely. You can be confident without being cocky and that is the mentality we have instilled in the ladies. Confidence is a huge part of the game, and we go into every game with the same positive attitude, whether it’s a league or cup game.

“We have enjoyed every game so far this season, learnt something from each of them and worked on areas that need improving, so Sunday will be no different.”

Reaching the final for a second time in three seasons would be something the club could be rightly proud of, said Rose, and their previous experience will only help to inspire the team.

“It will be a huge boost, especially for our girls’ teams, who hopefully in the years to come, will see what is achievable if they stick with it. We have players who have been at the club from the age of 12, so to see them in the final again, would be something the club should be proud of.

“To come that close before will only inspire the team to be able to reach for that high again. We have several players who have joined us since the last final, so this will definitely help us to hopefully achieve the result we need to get there.

“It’ll be good for those who weren’t part of that original team to talk to, and get the reassurance they need from those who played before. But we have to get there first before we even start to think about that!” he said.
