Borough edge home in Senior Cup clash
HAVERHILL Borough edged a nine-goal thriller against Capel Plough to reach the quarter-finals of this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup.
A topsy-turvy second round tie at The New Croft on Saturday saw Borough take a two-goal lead, only for Capel to turn the match on its head and lead 3-2 at half time.
Borough scored three times in the second period before Sean Gunn completed his hat-trick for the visitors, although to no avail.
Borough, like Capel losing semi-finalists in 2017, will now wait to see who they will meet in this season’s quarter-finals. The remaining seven ties take place this coming weekend.
Stowmarket Town served notice of their intention on Saturday to reach a third successive Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup Final. They won 8-2 at Cornard United.
Touchline SIL League B leaders Haughley United pulled off a fine 3-1 win over Whitton United of the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League.
SIL League A side Trimley Red Devils also enjoyed a good win, beating Bungay Town 6-1 and Waveney were 5-1 winners at home to Lakenheath.

Fusilier again displayed their firepower with a 9-1 victory over Taverners in the third round of the Anglian Radio Kids’ Trust Suffolk Sunday Shield.
The Lowestoft-based side found the net 13 times at Carlton Colville Town in the first round, before receiving a walkover win in round two.
That ten-goal aggregate was matched by Elmsett United’s 6-4 victory over Wetherden and Holbrook Swan’s win by the same margin against Sizewell Argyle.
Lavenham, runners-up in the Suffolk Sunday Trophy in 2017, were 5-0 winners at Eastbury Eagles in Sunday’s third round.
Haverhill & Hove Albion also netted five times, hosts Breda scoring a lone reply, while holders Bardwell Sports beat Thurston 4-0 to book their place in this season’s quarter-finals.
