Fusilier v Swan in Sunday Shield Final
FREE-SCORING Fusilier are through to this season’s Suffolk Sunday Shield Final.
The Lowestoft-based side, who play in Division One of the Great Yarmouth Sunday League, had scored 30 goals in just three ties to reach the last four of this season’s competition.
And they rattled in another seven as they swept past Ipswich Sunday Football League Division Two side Elmsett United in a 7-2 victory at Badingham Road, home of Framlingham Town FC, on Sunday.
They will now face Holbrook Swan in the final on Super Sunday at Needham Market FC on Sunday, April 28th.
Holbrook Swan were 2-1 winners against Walton Wanderers in the other semi-final at Humber Doucy Lane, home of Ipswich Wanderers FC.
The 2016 finalists – they lost 4-2 on penalties to Mellis following a 1-1 draw after extra time at Stowmarket Town FC – edged a close contest between the two ISFL sides.
The two matches were originally scheduled to take place four weeks ago, but both were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
The final, which will kick-off at 3pm on the 3G pitch at Bloomfields, will take place on the same day as the Suffolk Sunday Cup, Suffolk Sunday Trophy and Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Finals.
