KITCHENER Taverners’ grip on the Suffolk Sunday Cup ended in a quarter-final penalty shoot-out exit at the hands of 2016 winners Tostock Pirates.

The meeting between Taverners, top of the Premier Division of the Ipswich Sunday Football League, and Bury & District Sunday League Division One leaders Tostock ended all square after 90 minutes.

It was Tostock who prevailed in the subsequent penalty shoot-out, winning 6-5 to book their place in the last four.

Joining them will be ISFL side Borussia Martlesham, who edge a ten-goal thriller away to Mellis, the runners-up in each of the last two seasons.

Borussia Martlesham’s 6-4 victory booked them a quarter-final spot, but the other two quarter-final ties – Felixstowe Harpers v Gym United and Horringer Social Club v Howards – were postponed.

The draw for the semi-finals of this season’s Sunday Cup (pictured above) will be held during this week’s Non-League hour of BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social.

The wet weather played havoc with the Crown Imperial Boys’ Youth Cup Quarter-Final fixtures, with 12 of the scheduled 22 ties postponed.
