Claydon so close to causing cup upset
CLAYDON came close to causing an upset in the Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup on Saturday.
The Macron SIL League A side drew 2-2 at Stowmarket Town, who won the competition in 2016-17 and have been runners-up in each of the last two seasons, before bowing out 4-2 on penalties.
There was no joy for either of the other SIL sides pitted against higher-division opposition, Capel Plough losing 7-0 at Beccles Town and East Bergholt United being beaten 4-1 by Woodbridge Town.
In the two all-SIL ties Old Newton United were 4-1 winners at Trimley Red Devils and Coplestonians were 5-3 winners in a penalty shoot-out following a 3-3 against Achilles.
The quarter-final draw for the Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup (pictured above) will take place live on the Suffolk FA Twitter feed on Tuesday lunchtime at 12.30pm.
Natasha Thomas scored six times on her 100th appearance for the club as holders Ipswich Town won 17-0 at AFC Kesgrave in the second round of the HomeStore Suffolk Women’s Cup.
Needham Market, last season’s losing finalists, edged a close match at Bungay Town 2-1, while Henley Athletic, who only formed this season, are through to the last eight.
They won 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw against Bury Town, who themselves only re-formed this season.
Brett Vale were 5-1 winners at home to Leiston St Margarets and Brantham Athletic 4-1 victors over Haverhill Rovers.
The draw for the quarter-finals will be broadcast simultaneously on the Suffolk FA Twitter feed and BBC Radio Suffolk at 2.40pm on Saturday, November 23rd.
