England youngsters returning to region
ENGLAND MU20s are returning to the region next month.
Keith Downing’s side will face Germany at Colchester United in the second of two games for the Young Lions in March.
England will travel to play Poland in Bielsko-Biała on Thursday, March 26th 2020, before returning to home soil for their game with the Germans.
And it promises to be another entertaining clash at the JobServe Community Stadium between both nations' best youngsters.
Last season's MU20s squad also faced Germany at the Essex venue, where they secured a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Joe Willock, who is pictured above (white shirt) during that match, and Lukas Nmecha.
And Colchester also hosted Gareth Southgate's final game in charge of the MU21s in 2016, when they beat Norway by 6-0 which included a Marcus Rashford hat-trick.
“We’re really pleased to be taking another England team back to Colchester," said Young Lions head coach Keith Downing.
"It’s a fantastic stadium and the supporters there always turn up in big numbers, which really pushes on the players.
“These matches will provide really good tests for us. Playing away in Poland in front of a large, partisan crowd will be a valuable experience in preparing the players for senior football as it replicates what they’d face at that level.
“Poland always produce physical, tough teams and it will be a real examination of us both physically and technically.
“Then in Colchester it’s the challenge of performing in front of a big home crowd and the pressure and expectation that brings. Germany are obviously always top opposition at any level and they continue to produce very good individuals and teams.
“The ten days will be a proper test for the players as they look to build on this season so far and hopefully get themselves in contention for selection for the U21s squad.”
