TWO teams to taste success in county cup competitions in recent seasons meet this weekend.

Melton United won the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup in the 2019-20 season, defeating Elmswell 4-3 in a topsy-turvy final at Stowmarket Town FC.

Delve back to the 2016-17 season and Bacton United 89 lifted the Suffolk Junior Cup, beating Oulton Broad 3-2 in the final after extra time at Colchester United FC.

It’s in this season’s Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup that the two teams will face-off this weekend as one of 13 second-round ties scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

Mutford & Wrentham are already assured of their place in the third round following Southwold Town’s withdrawal from the competition while two ties are taking place next Saturday.

Holders Stowupland Falcons host Exning United, who play in Division 2B of the Kershaw Cambridgeshire County League.

Sporting 87, who last season Stowupland Falcons condemned to a second semi-final loss in three years, entertain Haverhill-based Puddlebrook as they seek to make it third time lucky.

The draw for the third round of the competition will be announced on Monday at 3pm.

There are also three ties in the second round of the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup on Saturday, while 24 hours later the one remaining second-round match in the Veo Suffolk Sunday Shield is taking place.
