Wanderers stand in way of Old Newton
THE draw has been made for the semi-finals of this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup.
Macron SIL Senior Division side Old Newton United will have to knock-out Ipswich Wanderers if they are to reach a first-ever Suffolk Senior Cup Final.
However, they will be able to draw inspiration from Bildeston Rangers, who defeated the Thurlow Nunn League South Division side at the same stage of last season’s competition.
Bildeston upset the odds to defeat Wanderers, who were then the holders, 2-0.
The tie will take place at Greens Meadow, home of Stowmarket Town FC, on a date to be confirmed.
Leiston Reserves will face either fellow Thurlow Nunn League Division One North side Needham Market Reserves or SIL side East Bergholt United in the other semi-final.
The two sides drew 2-2 at Bloomfields in last Saturday’s quarter-final tie, before Needham advanced 5-4 on penalties.
However, Needham Market participation in the competition is the subject of an appeal of allegedly fielding an ineligible player, with the outcome of the appeal to be announced by Suffolk FA in due course.
Whoever Leiston’s opponents are the match will be staged at Notcutts Park, home of Woodbridge Town FC, on Saturday, March 13th.
The semi-final draw was broadcast during the Non-League Hour of BBC Radio Suffolk’s Thursday Night Sports Social.
