MORE county cup final places are on offer this weekend.

On Friday evening and Saturday afternoon it’s the semi-finals of the Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.

In Friday night’s tie Ransomes Sports, who are third-from-bottom in Division Three of the Macron SIL, will be looking to upset higher-league Hadleigh United.

Hadleigh, the 2014-15 winners of this competition, currently occupy second spot in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League and will be favourites to progress to the final.

Ransomes Sports did beat Cornard United, who also play in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League, 1-0 in the last round so should not be under-estimated.

Saturday afternoon sees the second semi-final between Beccles Town and Claydon.

It was Claydon’s first team who progressed 2-0 at the expense of Beccles Town when the two sides met in the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup Quarter-Finals just three weeks ago.

They will be bidding to make it a double success in county cups this season against opponents who were runners-up in this competition in both 2019-20 and 2020-21.

AFC Dragonfly will be awaiting the outcome with interest of the re-scheduled Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy Semi-Final between Ipswich side Taverners and West Suffolk Wolves.

The fixture was a late casualty of last weekend’s wet weather, so everyone will be keeping their fingers crossed it can go ahead at the second attempt.

The re-arranged MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup Semi-Final between Needham Market and East Bergholt United should go ahead at the second attempt, even if a change of venue is required.

This is due to be played, as last week, at Ipswich Wanderers FC, but if their Humber Doucy Lane pitch is again unfit, the tie will switch to the 3G pitch at AFC Sudbury with a revised kick-off time of 4.30pm.

East Bergholt United, who are sixth in Division One South of the Eastern Region Women’s Football League, are up against a Needham Market side who are enjoying a fine debut season in the Premier Division.

After winning the Division One North title last season, Needham sit fourth in the Premier Division with games in hand on the two sides immediately above them and have won their last eight matches across all competitions.

Needham Market (red shirts) are pictured above in action versus AFC Sudbury Reserves (yellow shirts) in last season's semi-final at Hadleigh United FC. Needham Market won 5-0 to reach the final, where they lost 3-1 to AFC Sudbury's first team.
