Beccles Town aiming for third time lucky
BECCLES Town Reserves are determined to make it third time lucky in the Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup Final.
Manager Charlie Bowen’s side face Hadleigh United in the final at Leiston FC on Friday, kick-off 7.45pm.
The Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division Two outfit lost to Woodbridge Town in the final of this competition in both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
Beccles Town Reserves Manager Charlie Bowen believes the experience of those two odd-goal final losses will spur his players on.
He said: “Many of our players were a part of the previous finals so they are looking forward to having another opportunity to win the trophy and the experiences of the previous finals has given them more determination to make sure that this year is the year the cup returns to Beccles.
“Everyone shares this determination to make this Beccles’ year! I think the experience of these players will be important to help manage the emotions of the occasion.”
Bowen’s side have twice progressed in this season’s competition via penalty shoot-outs.
He said: “I believe that this team can beat any opponent on their day and the ability to do so in a penalty shoot-out shows the mentality that this team will never give up and will keep pushing until the end and it’s reflective of the determination that the team has to win matches and the competition.”
Bowen is well aware of the threat that their Thurlow Nunn Reserve League opponents will provide, having already netted 18 goals in four matches in this season’s competition.
“Hadleigh have had some very impressive results en route to the final and have had a strong league season so they are going to be difficult opponents.
“It’s important that we treat it the same as any other game and don’t get lost in the occasion of a final. I have full faith in our squad to be the team that goes all the way.”
