Sides vie for spot in last eight of Trophy
IT’S THE third round of this season’s Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy this weekend.
Sixteen sides will be vying for a place in the quarter-final draw when they line-up on Sunday morning.
Gardeners Arms are the only side to have featured in both rounds so far – there was only one first-round tie – and have scored seven goals both times.
After a 7-2 win at Playford, Gardeners Arms won 7-0 at home to Ipswich Athletic in round two. They now travel to Rattlesden.
They weren’t the highest scorers of the second round – Risby Greens led the way with a 9-1 victory over Palgrave Wanderers.
They now face Stowupland Falcons, who were 8-3 winners against Claydon Athletic in the last round.
Thurston also netted seven goals last time out at home to Taverners Reserves and will be aiming to extend their interest in the competition into the New Year when they entertain Haverhill Ex-Servicemen’s Club.
AFC Dragonfly, who lost last season’s final 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out to Taverners following a 2-2 draw, host Wincanton.
The Bury & District Sunday League Division Three side will be aiming to stay on course to reach this season’s final versus their Ipswich Sunday Football League Division Two visitors.

Stowmarket Town Under-23s, meanwhile, became the last side to book their spot in the quarter-finals of this season’s Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.
They defeated Woodbridge Town Under-23s 5-4 on Tuesday evening to reach the last eight where they will now travel to Henley Reserves in February.
