Redgrave stand in Coddenham's way
CODDENHAM Athletic will be trying to make it back-to-back McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup Finals on Friday.
The Macron SIL Division Four leaders face Division Three side Redgrave Rangers in the first of this season’s semi-finals at Walsham-le-Willows FC, kick-off 7.45pm.
The Cod Army lifted the trophy for the first time last season, winning 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw with Gipping Gnats at Colchester United FC.
Their defence of the cup started in unconvincing fashion, requiring penalties to progress past Sporting 87 ‘A’ in the first round and then against Brantham Athletic Development in round two.
They followed that with a 3-1 victory over Kesgrave Kestrels Reserves, before beating Thurston Reserves 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
However, they take on a Redgrave Rangers side who currently occupy second spot in the league above them and are on course for promotion to Division Two.
Redgrave Rangers are also previous winners of the competition, edging out Salvation Army 1-0 in the 2008-09 final.
They started this season’s competition with a 4-1 win at home to AFC Kesgrave Reserves and followed that with a 7-0 success over Thurlow Reserves.
A third home draw in a row saw Cockfield United Reserves defeated 2-0 in round three, before there came a 3-1 win at Occold in the last eight.
The winners will meet either Cavendish or Ipswich Vale Exiles, who play their last-four tie a week on Saturday, in the final which will take place at Colchester United FC on Tuesday, April 30th, kick-off 7.30pm.

The semi-finals are also taking place in the Suffolk Youth U13 & U14 Plate competitions.
