Ipswich win first women's derbies
IPSWICH came out on top in the first East Anglian Women’s Walking Football Derby.
A series of four friendly matches played between two teams from Ipswich and two from Norwich resulted in three 1-0 wins for the hosts, with the fourth ending goalless.
The matches took place on Sunday at Kesgrave Community Centre, home to teams from the Ipswich Walking Football Centre.
Noel Wilson, who organises the weekly sessions at Kesgrave, said: “Both teams were initially a little anxious as many of them had not played a competitive, albeit friendly, fixture ever before
“All games were tightly contested with Ipswich teams coming out on top by the odd goal in three of them.
“Everyone seemed to have an enjoyable time and made many new friends between the two clubs.
“A return fixture is being arranged when we will cross the border in the hope of retaining our unbeaten record.”

Although the Walking Football group started ten years ago, sessions have been held at Kesgrave Community Centre for the past four years, when the ladies’ sessions also started.
“We regularly have 50 players plus enjoying social walking football every week,” added Noel.

Monday evening (Men's) 7pm-8pm
Wednesday morning (Ladies) 10am-11am
Thursday evenings (Mixed) 7.30pm-8.30pm
